Machine Tool Program provides skills, credentials manufactures covet

A new generation of skilled machinists are receiving more pay, finding better job opportunities and providing additional expertise to manufacturers.

Learning the skills necessary to become employed by a Northern Nevada manufacturer can take as little as 16 weeks in Western Nevada College’s accelerated Machine Tool Technology program.

After completing six courses, students are capable of earning four National Institute for Metalworking Skills industry-recognized certifications. More importantly, these credentials and skills make them very attractive to many manufacturers in the area.

“We need skilled laborers,” said WNC Machine Tool Technology instructor David Fulton. “Many jobs are coming open and companies need qualified employees.”

After completing WNC’s accelerated program, students can take several additional classes to earn a MTT Certificate of Achievement and proceed toward the 60-unit Associate of Applied Science degree in MTT.
